Hi, and welcome to my tech blog. I’m Cindy Royal, a professor of digital media at Texas State University in San Marcos. For the 2013-2014 academic year, I attended Stanford University on a Knight Journalism Fellowship.
I teach Web Design, Multimedia Journalism, and other courses that integrate tech skills and concepts. I am moving into the area of data visualization and programming. I started designing Web sites in 1997 with a concert review site, originally on an aol account, then at www.onthatnote.com. I had so much fun, that I decided to make a career out of it. I enrolled in the doctoral program at The University of Texas in the School of Journalism, studied the social implications of new media. Six short years later, I had phd in hand and a brand new career.
Before this, I had worked in a variety of mindless, non-challenging corporate positions at both NCR Corporation and Compaq Computer. Now, I have a great job where I get to work with students and engage with important topics. I decided to start this blog to record some of the aspects of teaching technology, discuss media trends, participate in active online discourse, and to chronicle my general career change.
