TXST Digital Media Grads Move Into Tech Companies

Celebrating new jobs with Kimberly and Kristin

Celebrating new jobs with Kimberly and Kristin!

One of the areas in which we have been focused in our program at Texas State is helping students prepare for emerging roles that have a strong emphasis on technology. I have had the pleasure of announcing many jobs that our graduates have secured, pioneering in this realm – carving out positions that involve tech savvy, excellent communication skills and the opportunity to contribute to strategy.

Kimberly Cook covers a session with Mashable's Pete Cashmore as part of our SXTXState team this past March.

Two more graduates have moved into these exciting roles. Kimberly Cook, who just graduated from our Digital Media Master’s program last month, has taken a job as web producer at Zenoss. This is an Austin company that does IT management. Kimberly will work on their company website and lead social media strategy. While this a technology role in managing their website and online presence, it is also a very important marketing function for the company. She joins another TXST SJMC grad, Brett Fails, who is a Digital Marketing Analyst at Zenoss.

Kristin McCasland graduated from our Digital Media Master’s program five years ago. She just started a position as project coordinator at Trademark Media. Previously, she’s worked as Web and Social Media Specialist for Rice University and before that was a Web producer at KTBC and KVUE. Trademark Media is an Austin Web development agency, and Kristin joins TXST SJMC grad Carly Hohl who has worked at Trademark since 2010 as Project Manager. Kristin will be working on Web development strategy and implementation with clients.

It is important to note that both Kimberly and Kristin were active participants in the SXTXState.com project while they were in our program (as were Carly, Dee and Mairin mentioned above). This important activity has produced many successful graduates who have moved into hybrid technology/communication roles.

Many congrats to Kimberly and Kristin!
